VINTAGE LEGO 6990 Space Monorail Transport, High-Speed Build & Review: A Blast from the Past

Hey there LEGO enthusiasts, it’s your funny and humorous male staff reporter back again with another exciting LEGO adventure. Today, I have the privilege of building one of my ultimate LEGO sets – the 6990 Space Monorail from 1987. I’ve been dreaming of owning this set since I was a mere five years old, and now, at the ripe age of 31, my dreams have finally come true. Buckle up and get ready for the high-speed build of a lifetime.

Let’s dive right into the unboxing and see what treasures lie within this vintage box of wonders. I managed to snag this set locally, and we’ve got some translucent pieces, the classic two-by plates, and even some circular pieces. Take a look at this – the original space minifigures! They’re still in pretty good shape for their age. We’ve got one-by plates, one-by bricks, two-bys, and two-by-twos – all the key ingredients for this LEGO masterpiece. Oh, and don’t forget about these frame and stand pieces that the monorail track sits on. And check out these unique and non-sortable pieces, just for a little added flavor.

Hold up, folks, we have an absolute gem here. Feast your eyes on the original 9-volt power system. It even has a nine-volt battery that powers up the track and lights it up. Unbelievable! I am beyond excited to see this thing in action and watch it glide along the track. But let’s not forget the real star of the show – the iconic LEGO monorail track itself. It’s a blast from the past, and it’s still in fantastic condition. Look at all these grooves; it’s like a LEGO highway from 1987. We’ve got an abundance of track pieces, including a couple of switchable ones, and even two large base plates to complete this masterpiece.

Before we jump into the high-speed build, I want to give a huge shoutout to my friend Chase, a fellow LEGO enthusiast and reseller located here in Kansas City. This guy has an incredible LEGO collection, and he’s always ready to hook you up with vintage sets, used sets, new sets, and an insane portfolio of minifigures. If you’re in the market for LEGO goodness, check out the link to his Facebook marketplace profile in the description below. Trust me, he’s got some amazing deals waiting for you.

Alright, folks, it’s time to put all these fantastic pieces together. But before we do, a disclaimer – I may be a professional LEGO builder, but today, I’m just a fanboy on cloud nine. Oh, here it goes. Brace yourselves for the high-speed build of a lifetime!

[Fast-forward montage of building]

And just like that, ladies and gentlemen, I have completed the space monorail from 1987! Look at it shine, look at it majestically glide along the track. I’m lost for words. It’s a complete LEGO masterpiece. This set is worth every penny, and the power functions are working like a charm. I’m beyond giddy with joy!

I know what you’re all waiting for, so let’s not keep you waiting any longer. It’s time to see this baby in action! I’ll turn on the power, set it to go forward, and with a twist of this knob… there it goes! It’s like magic, my friends. This monorail keeps going and going and going. It’s incredible. And did you see that motor piece? That’s worth a pretty penny on its own. If you’re lucky enough to have the entire set in good condition with instructions, this could easily fetch you a sweet $500 to $800! Cha-ching!

Let me show you some of the cool playability features packed into this set. We’ve got a nifty rotating cargo area and a sliding, elevator-like contraption for our minifigures to go up and down. It’s like a space-themed playground! If I were a kid again, I’d be playing with this set all day, every day. It’s pure nostalgia and imagination combined.

I have to be honest, though. This set may not be the sturdiest thing in the world. It’s held together by a couple of flimsy pieces, so you’ll need to handle it with care. But as long as the train stays on the tracks and everything keeps moving smoothly, who cares? We’re talking about a vintage LEGO gem here. Nothing can dampen my spirits.

Now, the only problem I have is figuring out where to display this bad boy. It’s not going to fit on my tiny shelf behind me, that’s for sure. But fear not, my fellow LEGO fans, where there’s a will, there’s a way. I’ll find a special place to showcase this Space Monorail in all its glory. Anyone who steps foot into my LEGO haven will be greeted by this incredible set.

And that, my friends, is the story of the Space Monorail LEGO set. I’m so grateful that you were here to join me on this high-speed build adventure. Until next time, keep chasing those LEGO dreams, keep building, and always remember to have fun. Stay tuned for more tips and tricks on buying and reselling LEGO for a profit – because why not turn your passion into a money-making venture? Happy building, everyone!
