The new LEGO Super Mario theme! Will I be buying?

Good afternoon, everybody! It’s Jim here, your favorite humorous male staff reporter from Brick Bucks. Today, let’s talk about the exciting news that Mario is finally coming to Lego Nintendo! Now, Lego and Nintendo have had quite a history, and I must say, it hasn’t always been rainbows and unicorns. Back in the day, before Nintendo even made video games, they were into board games and even had their own stackable bricks that could be swapped with Lego. The relationship with Lego wasn’t the best at first, but hey, everyone makes mistakes. But now, they’re all good buddies, and we’ve already seen some Nintendo-themed characters in Lego video games, so things are looking up!

Now let’s dive into the new Super Mario theme. I have to admit, I’m really excited about this set. Now, normally, when I buy Lego, I stick to the traditional stuff and avoid anything with electronics. But this set is an exception. It’s like a replica of the actual video game, complete with electronic features. So, we have the Super Mario Adventures of Mario starter course, which is currently not available (bummer!). It’s listed for $59.99 on Lego shop at home and will be released on August 1st. But that’s just the beginning! We also have the Bowser castle boss battle expansion set, which looks absolutely amazing. And there are even power-up packs and character packs to keep the game fresh. These packs could be great collectibles in the future, so keep an eye out for those.

According to CNET.com, this new Lego Super Mario set is a real-life Super Mario Maker. It’s the result of a four-year collaborative project between Lego and Nintendo. And guess what? It’s not just your typical playset. It’s a modular interactive game! It’s all about using your imagination while playing with your kids. So, yeah, this is going to be in high demand.

You can already pre-order the sets on Target’s website, and they’ll be available on August 1st. Now, I know I said I was excited about this, but I’m also not rushing to invest in it right away. I might just buy it for my kids and wait a year or two before investing in more. You see, when it comes to Lego sets, especially those with licensing deals like this, the best time to invest is usually around two years after the release. So, keep an eye out for any retirement lists or articles that give you a heads up on what sets are going to be retired soon.

Now, I know some of you might be itching to get your hands on these sets early. But sorry to burst your bubble, there are no sets available for sale yet on eBay. However, I did some calculations and projections based on the prices of similar sets. I have to say, the potential return on investment for the starter course set looks pretty good. If you buy it at its retail price of $59.99, you could potentially sell it for around $175. And if you’re lucky enough to get a discount, you could be looking at over $200! As for the Bowser’s Castle Battle Pack expansion set, the minimum target price I’m putting on it is $125, but I won’t be surprised if it goes up to $250 or even higher.

To sum it up, the new LEGO Super Mario theme is definitely worth checking out. It brings Super Mario to life in an interactive and imaginative way. Just remember, patience is key when it comes to investing in Lego sets. But hey, keep an eye out for those retirement lists and do your due diligence.
