Every LEGO Technic Set Retiring in 2023

We are saying goodbye to so many Lego Technic sets this year. There are tons of sets in this theme that will be getting retired and leaving the shelves for good. And Technic is such a beloved theme. It’s actually one of the Lego themes that the fans are so dedicated and developed. Because it is very different, of course, to all of the other themes of Lego. Different parts, different design techniques, everything about Technic is just different than other Lego themes. And for that reason, the fans and the audience of Lego Technic are so dedicated to it.

There is tons of collectability across the Technic theme. So a lot of fans who buy one Technic set, that is not where they’re going to call it a day. They’re going to be buying multiples. And some of these sets just look so great next to each other on a shelf. It is a theme with incredible design techniques and some of the best out of any Lego theme out there. With the very mechanical and engineering type approach, of course, to the building of incredible Lego sets. And in recent years, we’ve seen other Lego themes start to adopt some of those Lego Technic building techniques because of how good they are.

Now if you’re a Lego Technic fan, you are spoiled for choice right now in terms of which Lego sets you want to be buying before they disappear off the shelves this year. Because not only do we have a ton of different Lego Technic sets that are retiring, they are such a good selection this year. We have so many really, really incredible sets that are retiring this year in this lineup. So with that, let’s just jump in, let’s breeze through some of these sets so you can see exactly which Lego Technic sets are retiring this year.

First up, we have the 4×4 Mercedes-Benz Zetros Trial Truck. Set number 42129, 2110 pieces, and a $330 MSRP. Now, Technic price ranges are pretty interesting because you have smaller, cheaper sets, of course, but ranging up to $500 sets in this list. So this one is on the higher end at $330 or at least in August 2021. And this one just recently retired in July of 2023. The others here will be retiring in December. So that is the Mercedes Zetros Trial Truck.

Next up, we have Dom’s Dodge Charger from The Fast and Furious series. Set number 42111, with a piece count of 1077, price per piece of 11 cents, and an MSRP of $120. This one has been around for a couple of years now since April 2020. And the popularity of this one has been pretty incredible. It’s definitely high in demand. There has been a Fast and Furious movie this year, which helps to prop up the excitement and demand around these sets. But by the end of this year, this set will be retiring for good.

Next up, we have the Ducati V4R. This is the set number 42107 with 646 pieces. Now, if you just look at this design, it looks like it’s a lot more intricately detailed than 646 parts. So they’ve done a great job on the design on this one. Price per piece is 12 cents and the MSRP is $80. I think that this is just such a beautiful-looking set for an $80 set. It’s gonna look great on your shelf, of course, with Ducati being one of the more beloved superbike brands out there on the market. Released in June 2020 and retiring in December of 2023, which will give it a shelf life of three and a half years by the time this one is retired.

Next up, we have one of the cheaper sets. This is Ray’s Plane, set number 42117, with 154 pieces. Very reasonable price per piece of 6 cents on this one because it’s just a $10 set. Once again, the design with Technic just often makes it feel like you’re getting really good value inside of the box. This is just a $10 set, but the design is pretty nice on this one. It actually just looks great for $10. Released in January 2021, retiring at the end of December 2023, which will give it a shelf life of almost three years by the time it retires.

Next up, we have the Monster Jam Grave Digger. Set number 42118 with 212 pieces. Nine cents price per piece on this one, $20 purchase price. Once again, here we see that the Technic design just makes it feel like it’s good value, right? It’s a two-in-one set, so you can build it in two different ways. And it has that pullback action where you can kind of pull it back and let it move. January 2021 release date, retiring at the end of December 2023 for a shelf life of just under three years.

Next, we have the Jeep Wrangler. Set number 42122, piece count of 665. And once again, this is one of the real popular Technic sets that is retiring this year. Price per piece is 8 cents based on such a popular car, of course, and $50 MSRP. Makes this very reachable in this price point. In Technic, is one that I really, really like because the demand on these $50 Technic sets can just be off the chain. This again released in January 2021, shelf life of just under three years by the time this one disappears.

And then also in this price range of $50, we have the McLaren Senna GTR. Set number 42123, 830 pieces in this one. A very low price per piece of 6 cents. $50 MSRP. You could argue that they could have charged more for this set. This is a case where it just feels like you’re getting a lot for $50. Again, just under three years on the shelves for this one because it was released in January 2021. This is one of my favorite sets on this entire list of retiring Lego Technic sets. Because of course, the McLaren Senna is just such a loved car in general. But also the value that you get in this one, I just love this because the detail is intricate, the design is incredible, the piece count is great for what you get here for $50. And overall, I’m a huge fan of the McLaren Senna.

Then we have the Ferrari 488 GTE “AF Corse #51”. Set number 42125, 2125 pieces in this one. Now, this has been around for a couple of years as well. Released in January 2021, will be retiring at the end of December 2023. A shelf life of just under three years. 1677 parts, so this is one of the larger supercars that is retiring. Similar to the Porsche 911, which actually is still on the shelves and it’s been around for a long time. This one came out after the Porsche 911 and is retiring earlier than it. So it has a price per piece of 12 cents and an MSRP of $200. The design on this one is great and a lot of fans love it. I personally do prefer the Porsche 911 and I also prefer some of the other larger supercars that have come before this one. But this one has still been selling pretty well. And in general, I think you can’t have a collection of the large Technic supercars and not have this one in your collection. So it is going to continue to be in demand. That is definitely going to happen after this one retires.

So, those are just a few of the Lego Technic sets that will be retiring in 2023. Remember, these sets have a limited shelf life, so if you’re interested in them, make sure to grab them before they’re gone. And keep an eye on the secondary market, as retired sets often see an increase in value. Happy building and investing!
