Every LEGO Minecraft Set Retiring in 2023

We are about to lose a whole host of Lego Minecraft sets from the shelves for good because we have a ton of retirement happening at the end of this year. Now, as a Lego investor, Lego Minecraft is interesting to me because values can go up significantly on some of these sets. It tends to be overlooked by other Lego investors, which can lead to a lack of supply in the aftermarket. But the demand for Minecraft can be quite strong.

Over the last couple of years, we have seen examples where some sets have been significantly undersupplied in the aftermarket while still having strong demand, collectability factors, and playability. People are still looking for those sets, and as a result, the prices have skyrocketed.

Now, Minecraft is not a sure thing when it comes to Lego investing. It is not a theme where all sets are definitely going to go up in value significantly. Some sets will outperform others, and it is important to do a little bit of research and understand which ones will be the best investments.

One of the important considerations with Minecraft is whether the brand will continue to be popular in the future. Is it on a decline or increasing in popularity? Is there a chance that Microsoft will release a new video game in that world or other new properties that could help to drive more demand and excitement around the brand? Some of that remains to be seen because we don’t have a ton of stuff on the horizon that’s already announced in the Minecraft brand.

But regardless, there will still be demand for these sets because they are very strong sellers. If you look at the Lego Minecraft sales ranks on Amazon right now, you’re going to see that there’s a lot of demand for a lot of these sets. Minecraft continues to be a household brand and still has a ton of popularity today.

So, let’s jump in now and start looking at some of the retiring sets this year in the Lego Minecraft theme.

First up, we have the Coral Reef set (21164). This is a small set with 92 pieces and retails for just $10. You get two unique Minifigures, and the value is not terrible when you calculate the price per piece. It’s a great price point when it comes to return on investment. This set was released in January 2021 and will be retiring in December 2023, giving it a shelf life of almost three years.

Next, we have the Pig House set (21170). This is a pretty iconic and unique looking set with 490 pieces and a price per piece of 10 cents. It retails for $50 and also has a shelf life of just under three years. The big pink house shaped like a pig is a standout on the shelf, and it can open up for added playability.

Then, we have The Ruined Portal set (21172), which features 316 pieces and two Minifigures, including a unique skeleton. The price per piece is even cheaper at 9 cents, and it retails for $30. This set was released in June 2021 and will be retiring in December 2023.

Lastly, there is the Creeper Ambush set (21177). This is another small set with 72 pieces and retails for $10. It includes two Minifigures, one of which is unique. While the price per piece is slightly higher at 14 cents, it still offers good value. This set amplifies the good value we saw in the first 10 set mentioned.

Overall, these retiring Lego Minecraft sets offer a range of playability and unique Minifigures. While their future value as investments may depend on the popularity of the Minecraft brand, there is still a strong demand for these sets in the current market. So, if you’re looking to add some Lego Minecraft sets to your collection, now might be the time to do so before they disappear from the shelves for good. Happy investing!
