Building the LEGO Airbus Concorde: Can it be done in under 3.5 hours? from Youtuber- Jake’s Bricks

Can I Build the LEGO Airbus Concorde in Under 3.5 Hours?

So recently Lego released the Airbus Concorde Lego set, a set that I’ve been wanting to build for several weeks now. And in their promo video, they said that you cannot build this set as fast as the Concorde could fly from New York City to London. Let me show you the promo that Lego actually released for the Airbus Concorde so you can see the challenge that they gave to all of us Lego fans.

“Elegance, speed, grace. There are moments in time when it seems that anything is possible. Presenting an icon of Supersonic travel, a marvel of engineering reimagined in Lego Bricks. The Concorde crossed the sound barrier as it crossed the Atlantic in 3.5 hours – less time than it will take to build and enjoy this majestic wonder of aviation. The new Lego Concorde, adults welcome on board.”

I personally took that as a challenge, and I think you should take that as a challenge as well. So here’s what I’m going to do right now. I’m actually going to build this set on high-speed build, and I’m going to attempt to build it under 3.5 hours to see if that’s even possible. I’m going to have a little timer clock set up up here so you can watch the time go in real-time. I’m not going to cheat, there’s going to be no other cuts. I’m going to see if I can build this in under 3.5 hours.

But before I start building, let me open up this set and show you guys everything that’s inside. Alright, let’s cut open the seal tape here. Oh, it makes me nervous! That this has an extra interior box. So for this set, which is 2,830 pieces, it includes 21 bags. There you go, count them, 21. I think this is actually the windshield piece inside this paper bag. And then let me open up the instructions to show you guys that as well. Here’s the instruction manual, and it is thick. I believe it has 293 pages. I don’t know how many steps that is in total, 547 steps. The cool part about this set is that there are no stickers included, so that’s not going to slow me down. All of the pieces that are labeled are printed pieces, which is awesome. Really proud of Lego for going towards printed pieces.

Alright, so here we go. I’m going to get started building, and I’m going to see if I can build the Airbus Concorde under 3.5 hours. You ready? Let’s go!

Alright y’all, I am down to the last pieces here. And if you’re looking at our time now, 3 hours and 18 minutes. Okay, I need to catch my breath here. Okay, so I’m going to put this up on the stand. Oh gosh, this thing is enormous. Okay, there’s a little spot in there for the stand. I need to push that piece at some point. Okay, I think this should hopefully just sit in like this. Oh goodness, wow y’all, there it is! The Concorde Supersonic jet, 3 hours and 19 minutes. Wow, this is one of the most gorgeous, enormous build experiences I’ve ever had.

The things that slowed me down were the Technic elements. So whenever I got to a Technic spot, it slowed me down a little bit. The thing that also got me distracted was the playability features. You twist the back end here, and that’s going to make the landing gear actually go up, just like that. And then this underside folds in as well. So that was like an incredibly fun feature that I ended up playing with, but I also wanted to make sure that it was working functionally.

Let me pull the thing off the stand so you can just… I’m going to have to figure out how to zoom in so that you guys can see just how incredibly massive – look, I’m already popping pieces off! Incredibly massive this set is. I mean, it is… I was surprised at how sturdy it was. There were multiple points during the build experience where you actually have support. So these orange pieces right here are different supports at different times, so that while you’re building, the stability is increased and it doesn’t break off certain sections. I thought that was really unique. I mean, I think that goes towards the piece count. It doesn’t actually include it inside the set, but it is just an amazing, amazing build.

I am uncertain on where I’m actually going to end up storing it because it’s not going to fit on my shelves behind me here. I’m going to have to either mount it up on the wall. I’m trying to think if I were to mount it up on the wall, it just doesn’t really look great on a white wall. That’s why I decided to build it on a black tablecloth. See, if I was building on a white tablecloth, it may not look as good. So there you go, 3 hours and what did it end up being, 3 hours and 18 minutes. I’ve been talking for 3 minutes now.

This is a challenge to all of the AFOLs out there, Lego builders, beat my time. Okay, do the same thing I did, beat my time. I’m sure if you were a little bit more efficient than I was, you could do it under 3 hours if you were moving at a pretty quick pace. I had some points where I messed up, there were a few different spots where I had to go back, probably cost me anywhere from 5 to 8 minutes in total. But to be honest, I didn’t expect I was going to be able to. I figured when Lego put out that statement that you can’t build the set under 3 and 1/2 hours, that some Lego designer or Lego builder at Lego Denmark probably tried to do it and couldn’t do it. I can’t believe that I would be one of the fastest builders out there, especially if you were one of the designers. You would actually know exactly what the build experience is supposed to be like.

So, sounds like Lego was wrong. You can build the Concorde Supersonic jet faster than it can fly from New York to London. So there you go guys, one of the best builds I’ve ever had. For $200, 2,380 pieces, I would say it’s a must-have for any collector of aeronautics, spaceships. It’s unfortunately, because it’s so white, it doesn’t look that impressive when you’re looking at it from afar. But up close and holding it in your hands, it is absolutely incredible. Absolutely incredible build.

I’m excited that I get to have it as part of my personal collection now. And I would encourage any collector or AFOL to build this at some point. So that’s all, that’s my review guys. I got to build it under three and a half hours. Hats off to me. I’m hoping someone out there challenges me and ends up building it quicker than I did. But as always y’all, it’s Jake from Jake’s Bricks signing off. We’ll see you guys next time.

And in the YouTube description:

A few months ago, LEGO released set 10318, the Airbus Concorde Supersonic Jet. And in their promo video, they said that the Concorde could fly from New York to London in under 3.5 hours, “less time than it will take to build…” So I took that as a challenge to see if I could build it under 3.5 hours.
