Originally published April 2022, when these sets were still on shelves at MSRP. All 7 are retired now, so treat the prices below as history, not a shopping list. Current values are much higher.
2021 marked the 20th anniversary of the first Harry Potter movie, and LEGO celebrated with something it doesn’t do often: a run of gold-chromed minifigures, one hidden inside each of seven different Harry Potter sets. No box called them out. You had to know which set to buy.
We dug into all seven sets, what golden minifigure came in each one, and what made a few of them worth holding onto as an investment even after the anniversary passed.
The 7 golden minifigures
LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts: Polyjuice Potion Mistake (76386), Golden Harry Potter

- Set #: 76386
- MSRP (USA): $19.99
- Piece Count: 217
- Golden Minifigure: Harry Potter
If you’re chasing the golden Harry Potter himself, this is the smallest and cheapest set in the run at 217 pieces, which also means it had the best supply while it was in stores. It also comes with 3 other minifigures with alternating faces of Crabbe and Goyle, and recreates a scene from the Hogwarts bathroom that connects to the other Chamber of Secrets sets.

LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts: Fluffy Encounter (76387), Golden Hermione

- Set #: 76387
- MSRP (USA): $39.99
- Piece Count: 397
- Golden Minifigure: Hermione Granger
This is the set for the golden Hermione Granger. It’s priced at roughly double the first set, but also carries close to double the pieces, plus a solid build of the three-headed dog Fluffy. Three additional minifigures come along for the ride, and it connects with the other Hogwarts sets the same way the Polyjuice set does.

LEGO Harry Potter Hogsmeade Village Visit (76388), Golden Ron Weasley

- Set #: 76388
- MSRP (USA): $79.99
- Piece Count: 851
- Golden Minifigure: Ron Weasley
The golden Ron Weasley lives in this set, which is a genuinely nice standalone build (it would fit right in alongside a winter village display, since Hogsmeade is a snowy town in the books). At the time this was written it was possible to pick up just the minifigure on BrickLink for around $10, though that number only moves one direction once a set retires and supply tightens.

LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Chamber of Secrets (76389), Golden Voldemort

- Set #: 76389
- MSRP (USA): $129.99
- Piece Count: 1176
- Golden Minifigure: Voldemort
This is the set to build if you want the golden Voldemort, and you’re also getting 10 other minifigures (11 total) plus a snake and an owl. Over 1,100 pieces makes it a solid value on the build alone, before you even factor in the minifigure lineup.

LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Icons Collectors’ Edition (76391), Golden Dumbledore, McGonagall & Hagrid

- Set #: 76391
- MSRP (USA): $249.99
- Piece Count: 3010
- Golden Minifigures: Albus Dumbledore, Minerva McGonagall, Rubeus Hagrid
The big one. At $250 and over 3,000 pieces, this was the flagship of the whole Harry Potter lineup, and the only set in the run with three golden minifigures instead of one. It’s packed with icons from the series, the Golden Snitch included, and even comes with its own display stand for showing the minifigures off once you’re done with the build. If you only chase one set from this list, this is the one collectors ask about most.

LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Wizard’s Chess (76392), Golden Snape

- Set #: 76392
- MSRP (USA): $59.99
- Piece Count: 876
- Golden Minifigure: Severus Snape
The golden Snape came bundled with a life-size wizard’s chess board build, which made this one of the more playable sets in the collection rather than a straight display piece.

Final thoughts
Seven sets, seven golden minifigures, and a real spread in price from $20 to $250. There was an entry point here for whatever budget you were working with back in 2021 and 2022. The Icons Collectors’ Edition (76391) is the one people talk about most, both for the triple golden-minifigure lineup and for being the largest build in the group, but the smaller sets held their own value too since they’re each tied to a single character fans specifically look for.
All seven have retired since this was first published, which is exactly the pattern we track on the Retiring Sets board. A themed, limited-run collection like this one is usually a safer long-term hold than a random general-release set, because demand doesn’t disappear once the anniversary does.
