Lego 75327 Star Wars Luke Skywalker Helmet Review

If you’re a fan of the LEGO Star Wars helmet display sets, and you’ve always wanted Luke Skywalker’s Red Five helmet in LEGO form, then the LEGO Star War Luke Skywalker (Red FIve) Helmet set is exactly what you’ve been waiting for.

When you think about Luke Skywalker, it’s easy to think about his blue or green lightsaber and his duels with Darth Vader.

It’s also hard to deny his time as pilot for the Rebel Alliance was just as important in the Star Wars universe as his time as a Jedi.  You could get his X-Wing in LEGO format before and now you can get his helmet to display right next to it.

So, let’s take a closer look at what you’re getting for the money.

Box Contents

The box art for this set is the standard high-quality photo of a complete Luke Skywalker (Red Five) helmet on its stand and with its nameplate, similar to the box art for others in the LEGO Star Wars helmet line like the Mandalorian helmet and Dark Trooper helmet.

Inside the box, you’ll find the standard LEGO instruction manual, only this one comes with an introduction to the set from Jens Kronvold Frederiksen, Creative Director for LEGO Star Wars

The set’s 675 pieces are collected into 4 bags.

Building Notes

The LEGO Luke Skywalker (Red Five) helmet is a detailed set designed for display.  As a result, it’s more complex than the average set when it comes to pieces and design.  That’s part of the reason the recommended age rating is 18+.

That shouldn’t discourage you from picking it up for yourself or for someone else as a gift.

It just needs to be noted that it has a lot of pieces for its size and will take longer than your average set if you’re not experienced with this level of detail. It does have a few awkward parts of the build with the yellow tubing and does not feel as sturdy as other helmets.

Collectible Display vs Playability

The Star Wars helmet display sets are exactly what they advertise: a great looking display set that reflects some of the most iconic helmets in the Star Wars universe.

This is not a set to play with, unless you’re looking for a giant floating helmet to tower over some Star Wars mini-figures.  No, if this set wasn’t meant to be displayed on a permanent basis, it wouldn’t have come with that cool stand and nameplate.

Besides being iconic, the quality, craftsmanship, and attention to detail not only make sets like the Luke Skywalker (Red Five) an excellent piece for your LEGO display shelf, but also an instant collectible whose value will only continue to appreciate in time.

More Brick For Your Buck

At a retail price of $59.99 and a total of 675 pieces, you’re looking at right around $0.09 a brick.  Not as cheap as $0.08 a piece, but under the $0.10 price per piece scene with other sets.

That, coupled together with the fact it is a Star Wars set and it is a Luke Skywalker helmet, makes the $59.99 price a very reasonable investment for what is sure to be worth more in the near future.

Potential Lego Investment Value

As just mentioned, the potential for this set to go up in value is almost a foregone conclusion.  The only thing it has going against it is that it’s not as iconic as other helmets in Star Wars

That doesn’t mean it won’t go up in value.  Not at all.  The Luke Skywalker name is enough to keep its value and then some.

You have to sell this for about $148 to get 100% ROI.

It just needs to be remembered that the helmets of the Rebel Alliance pilots aren’t as iconic as the helmets of Darth Vader, Boba Fett, the Mandalorian, or any servants of the Empire.  And that makes total sense.

It’s hard to compete with the helmets of some of the coolest characters out there, even if your name is Luke Skywalker.
